I sort of agree with you, but for me, specialty tea IS handcrafted and usually only available by mail, unless you're very lucky and have a quality tea store near you.

Well, well, well. $12 dollars for a small group of people that make over $40,000 is not a big deal. For those who make much less than that $12 goes a long way, and can be better spent in well uh lets see, food? Milk?

Everything is relative.

I'd like to know how much the people doing the hard labor are being paid.

This mirrors my sentiment towards small-scale, artisan wine growers around the world. Thank you for the wonderful experience last May, when we walked into your Yerba Buena centre location for tea and a snack a few hours before departing back towards the east coast. Our peaceful afternoon at Samovar was a memorable part of our honeymoon stay in the city.

Once you taste a fine white/green tea and fully appreciate all the skill that has gone into making it, money really doesn't come into the equation for me. I just buy it and enjoy!

Well said Jennifer, there are always going to be people who only see price tag. Everyone is free to judge after they have experienced the quality of Samovarlife, and if they find that too much to pay so be it. However those just judging the establishment based on price point are just cheating themselves out of a great experience. Really you can pay about $10 for a Mickyucks meal these days the experience can’t even compare. I for one am willing to pay more just to get a proper tea cup and not have my tea bought in some paper nonsense, or a dreaded coffee mug.
As a business I hope you aren’t taking cost complaints to personally. Can you blame people for wanting to experience Samovarlife every day or several times a week? Of course we would love everything we enjoy to be cheaper, so perhaps a positive spin on this is that people who have a problem with the price might just wish they could experience the wonderful food, tea and service Samovarlife has to offer more often than they can afford to. There are many things in life like this, and critics aside if you are hearing it from a customer that they wish things were cheaper try and take it more of wishful thinking on their part than an actual complaint . Critics are just jumping on the global economic downturn band wagon and have less regard for free trade and business expenses that are viewed as no essential to the actual experience, they may fully apereciate the art and teaware but the slow food concept and working with farmers is something lost on those who want things to be good and cheap. If you are providing a superior service, customers will come at a steeper price based on that alone, the fact that you offer much of what can not be experienced elsewhere is additional draw for those looking for a new experience. Keep up your good business.
